Ust-Luga Container Terminal

In April 2007 NCC started construction of a new container terminal in Ust-Luga port. Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT) with the ultimate capacity of 3M TEU per year will become the largest and the most technologically advanced facility in Russia and Eastern Europe. Putting it into operation is expected to eliminate the deficit of container capacity in North-West Russia and to decrease the dependence of Russian consignees on the ports of Finland and the Baltic states.

The terminal is being constructed within the framework of state-private partnership. The investments of the NCC will amount to about $800M by 2020. At least $ 110M will be invested in the project from the state budget.

The terminal will be put into operation in three phases.

Key figures:

• Total area - 140 ha

• Quay length – 1,700 m

• Depth alongside – 13.5- 16.0 m

• Reefer plugs – 6,000

• Storage capacity – 62,500 TEU

• Maximum throughput – up to 3,000,000 TEU per year

Key advantages:

• Natural advantages over other ports in the region in terms of navigation (365 days per annum) and an almost unlimited potential for further expansion

• Ability to handle vessels up to 6,000 TEU

• The highest level of terminal services in line with world class standards

• Full range of services, including but not limited to off dock container storage, commercial warehouses, container freight station (CFS), distribution centers

• Modern IT-system and EDI connection

• Modern equipment and handling system (STS-RTG/RMG-TT)

• Rail access to/from ULCT is designed to ensure reliable connection between the terminal and major destination points by shuttle block trains.
